My wife and I have been to Vital a handful of times,, it's a nice small gym for quick fix. Haven't seen any outside action in Carlsbad yet.

Where do most people in carlsbad go for some outside climbing? Are there better gyms near the calrsbad area? Vital seems so appealing because its like a mile away from where my apartment will be.

I'm trying to figure out that myself. We are new to this area as well. I've heard of Dixion Lake out at Escondido, CA but I haven't been there.

My options are rather "limited" as I'm a sport climber / boulder, so I've been to the Tram, Black Rock Mtn, JTree, New Jack City, and Holcomb Vally. All of which are 2-3 hr drive.

If you lead trad, then I think your options opens up tremendously.

Side note: You have mtn biking listed. A place to get a quick ride in is Calavera park. I also see a lot of divers off of La Jolla.
