I'm planning on spending July and August of this year climbing in the US.

What are people's recommendations for destinations that are the easiest to pick up climbing partners if one is travelling alone?

An area that offers multipitch trad routes would be a bonus, as would any destinations in Colorado although I would be willing to travel as far as Canada or Mexico.

I think Squamish would be a good bet for you weather wise, I've never been there so I don't know how it is to meet partners.

I've gone to the devils tower a few times in mid to late august and had good luck finding partners. You can camp for free at Frank's place and I've always been able to meet people to climb with there too.

If you want to climb in CO Rocky Mountain National Park probably has some stuff that's not too hot that time of year, and your best bet to find partners is on mountainproject.com

YOSEMITE. Camp at Camp 4 campground aka Sunnyside - everyone there is gonna be a climber. Many are there alone. Post a note on the noteboard and you're good to go. Other places I've been that are social epicenters of the local climbing scene include Miguel's at the Red River Gorge, and Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Arkansas (just bring your wallet and get ready to wear a wristband).

+1 If you like traffic jams, smog, and heat exhaustion, then it's perfect, otherwise atleast go to toulomne.

How's smith rock in summer?

Very hot. But if you climb in the shade, it is doable.

Eldo and RMNP that time of year...WA and Squamish would be good as well...

Thank you for the replies everybody.

Colorado and Squamish both seem to have been popular suggestions.

Looks like I'll plan to start off in Colorado, and then, unless anything else comes up I'll make my way over to Squamish.

Thanks again!

I did the West Face of Sentinel BITD in July. It was hot. Really hot.

The Tetons would be an excellent bet. Stay at the climbers ranch. If you meet people you like, you can head down to the Wind Rivers.

Eldo too can be very hot in July, but doable with very early starts and an attempt to stay on shady climbs. RMNP and Lumpy Ridge are much cooler, but a decentralized climbing scene might make it hard to meet climbers. Perhaps the gyms in Boulder are the best way to find partners?
