In reply to: The course on Islam had been taught since 2004, but was not part of the required core curriculum. It was offered five times a year, with about 20 students each time. Sounds like this is one person acting out, not an institutionalized/officially condoned hatred, especially when the course was shut down immediately upon the higher-ups finding out about it. I do believe that Islam itself is a major cause of the constant violence in the middle east. It's a religion that doesn't teach equality for women, doesn't emphasize forgiveness, and encourages fundamentalism. In my mind fundamentalism of any kind (The strict adherence to a set of beliefs without concern for reason or evidence) is one of the greatest evils this planet has seen.
