Can't Post

I've been climbing around summit county alot lately, and I keep running into fire rings and scars around the base of climbing areas. Why? I think I counted 5 fire rings or piles of ashes on the 5 minute aproach to zuma rocks.

I'll admit that I'm not a big fan of fires, I think they're a pain, they make me stink, and the envirionmental impact is more than I like to leave. I especially don't understand having a fire at the base of a climb, 5 minutes from the road. It leaves soot all over the rock, and the area.

Are fires common in other climbing areas? can anyone think of a good reason to have a fire at the base? (when near a road, not days into the back country)
