If you were such a natural back then, why don't you have a sponsor yet?
Do you really think you are better than the people that are sponsored? If so go to competitions and see, maybe that will put you into the real light.
Being a professional athlete is not as easy as your TV makes it out to be. Also getting there is even harder.

This perspective might help... Ive been climbing for 7 months and I lead up to 5.11d outdoor and comfortably on site anything in the 5.10 range. Including joshua tree ratings. I am nowhere close to getting sponsored. But if you want to be sponsored for gym climbing start doing competitions. If you want to be sponsored for the outdoors you'd better start climbing outdoors. I am maybe a 5.8 climber indoor but when I get outside the game changes.

Very helpful perspective. Game changer really.

Keep having your mom and dad shell-out to renew your gym membership, because smoke rises upwards into one's Ass.

Please gain some perspective and enjoy the journey and not the end.

For everyone else, hit the deck to exit a smoke filled space!

It's not too difficult to get some sort of discount, if you are some sort of instructor. For instance, a Google search for "pro discount black diamond" brought me to this page: http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en/pro-requirements.html which basically says that if you're a certified guide and can show that you're getting paid to guide, or you teach that kind of stuff full time, or you're on the ski patrol, or are part of a big search and rescue group that's all buying stuff, then you can get some sort of discount.

To get stuff for free, though, the requirements are generally going to be even more stringent. For instance, instead of showing two paystubs, you might have to provide business details of how many thousands of people are going to be seeing you wearing the equipment, or collections of newspaper articles, or contests/competitions regularly won, or something else that really shows how awesome you are and how many people will be looking up to you. Or get really friendly with a local manager, or something.

Also, the first rule of pro discounts is that, if you're getting one, you don't ever tell anyone what sort of discount you're getting, or you won't ever get a discount again and the company might just stop offering the discount at all. So I can tell you that pro discounts do exist, and for some of the companies that get asked about pro discounts a lot (like Black Diamond) they've made some of the requirements more readily accessible, but otherwise nobody can really tell you about pro discounts, you have to go search them out for yourself.
