Help us find this rope! We are investigating an incident that occurred in Stockholm the 2nd of May 2012, where a climbing rope broke almost entirely. Luckily no one got injured. So far the cause of the rope failure is unknown and we are investigating all possible causes. Even after extensive search we can not still find the producer of the rope so we are asking you to help us. Here you find a picture of the rope: http://www.stockholmsklattring.se/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=70 Please post your findings in this forum or in the linked forum above. Thank you for your support.

Any idea of the size (mm). Can't say I can positively ID it, but it looks like a common variety hardware store kernmantle rope.

It was said to be a 10 mm, but it is since some hours ago more or less identified as a Millet Quartz 10.3.

On supertopo.com, Mezzner wrote: The rope ripped gradually (during lowering!) and the climber saved himself grabbing a QD when the core was completely broken, while the sheath was broken to, say, 75%. My money is on chemical contamination. Jay

There will probably be a preliminary report, but maybe also a very detailed investigation/thesis later. Hopefully we will be able to get back here with a link or at least a summary of the result. Of course, it is already obvious that the rope did not perform normally.

as far as identifying rope: I bought some static rope a while back and when I cut it into pieces I noticted that in addition to normal strands in the core there a special strand interwoven that had printed on it the manufacturer and rope name, and batch number. Don't remember what manufacturer it was, or if its common practice.
