I had arthroscopic surgery last Wednesday on my right shoulder. The intention was to perform the Subacromial Decompression and Mumford procedures, which would have had me climbing again within days, but my doctor found this also. The image shows a massive tear to the hyaline cartilage of the humeral head. So he performed "microfracture" to the humeral head to expose bone marrow and promote growth factor/stem cell entry to the area, which will hopefully result in the generation of a new cartilage patch. We'll see. In the meanwhile, I can't use my right arm for 12 weeks. It sucks, but it - microfracture, that is - beats having to have a full-blown shoulder replacement, right? (That's what I keep telling myself.)

Well, that's looking at the bright side...microfracture is better that total shoulder. It's pretty bad news. As soon as you have clearance, start very gentle ROM...Codman's exercises...pendulums. Then, RC strengthening, which will probably be isometrics at the start. Be patient. This is going to take a while. Stay in touch.
