Ouchie! Yet again bitten by the nasty black flies while climbing. So far I've tried cortaid, benadryl gel, Ssssting-Stop. Not all at once, of course! Is there anything out there (other than not getting bitten) that works well?

Large scale: oatmeal bath. Localized: apply moistened tobacco directly over the bite.

Calamine lotion applied with cotton balls. That's what I used last year when I was eaten alive by those buggers. Worked quite well but you do have to apply it every few hours.

Is there anything out there (other than not getting bitten) that works well? This works extremely well for poison ivy, so I assume it works for fly bites, too... Run the hottest water you can possibly stand over the site. While it's under the water, the bite will itch like mad. Hold it. Hoooollllld it... maybe 30 seconds. As soon as you take it out, you'll feel instant, total relief that lasts a couple hours.

I hate itchy bug bites, and I don't generally like people. Win Win!

So... the hot shower works. So is baking soda (same idea as tabacco), so is camomile lotion (just ok, not really better than ssssting thing). Other suggestions unfortunately required some shopping to be done well in advance! But there is always next weekend to climb and get bitten :)
