there was a tent w/ screaming quebec baby at the meadows 2 weekends ago... too small to accidentally the whole trail but had impressive vocals.

just keep an eye on them. i almost killed a little kid at a climbing gym the other day by accident because the parent wasnt paying attention. i was 12' up working an overhanging boulder hanging on by 2 fingers (very much ready to fall), straining myself way harder than i normally would before falling; all because there was a 2 year old pacing around under me. finally i got the kid to move by yelling and then fell and landed on my back right next to the kid. if i would have landed on her i honestly feel i would have either seriously injured or killed her with how i had to fall.
now i have some incredibly sore tendons in my one and only hand from straining myself beyond my limit trying to hold on when i should have let go.
when i climb i am zoned on the climb, and when a parent comes with a crap load of kids and thinks it's not a serious place and let's them run free there is a lot of potential for bad. they got lucky that i didnt slip and assume my landing area was clear that time.
before that i kept getting kicked off walls by the gang of little kids (all 2-3 years old). i would stand there looking at a route carefully planning my moves when a bunch of little kids would come up and start playing (not in any way climbing) on the wall. then the parent think it's cute and rudely kind of pushes me to the side so they can take pictures. that happened more than once...

so yeah, if you want to bring your kid to a busy crag keep a VERY close eye on them. they of course have the right to climb too, but if they cant climb at all and are running around screaming and getting in peoples way please find an empty crag/gym for my safety and theirs...
i'm sure most of you guys are smart enough to not have to be told all this, but right now i have to take yet another break from climbing because a trashed a tendon thanks to one parent who obviously needed to be told this.

just pointing it out. my message wasnt "fuck kids"... like i said, i'm all for kids climbing, but keep an eye on them and be responsible is all i'm saying. last thing i want to do is see someone get hurt, especially a little kid who is just having fun. and further more i dont want to have it on my conscience that i seriously injured someone.

also as i said, it's probably something a lot of people dont need to be told, but reminders never hurt(accidents do though)

I'm actually a pretty good and responsible parent, even without reminders from strangers on the Internet.

Really didn't need all these dickwads hijacking the thread to tell me how to raise my kid

This is my 7 year old on Beginners Route on Whitehorse, a 10 pitch 5.5. It was her first roped climb.

Of course, she has aged a bit since then. She turns 24 next month and has been hooked on climbing ever since that first experience.

Yet you put yourself square in my sights... would you like to comment about how you're so much more enlightened for electing not to procreate?

Or how about lamenting about the fact that I have produced offspring and choose to involve him in my activities and how it is compromising your experience.

C'mon, I dare you.

First of all, claiming someone is on PMS because the are angry is stupid. Secondly, K is always a raging beotch, this is no exception (except for maybe the fact negitive vibes were sent towards her kids, so she is not a totally beotch for being a total beotch).

I love the first photo. When I first looked I thought she was leading it! And not just leading it, but running it out like hell......
Can't wait til mine are old enough to try climbing. Really hope they like it. We need someone to get the rope up for us.

She's tailing a rope. Only Lynn Hill is cool enough to have led her first climb ever.

I know, but at first glance you don't see the upper rope. Its still cool though.

I didn't read the post from knubs to be aimed at Kartessa, but simply sharing an experience which could have been a real tragedy. He or she didn't suggest Kartessa let's her children wander under people bouldering while not paying attention to them.

While one would *think* it would be common sense to pay attention to toddlers or older kids to keep them safe and be thoughtful of others, experience does show that this is, sadly, sometimes not the case.

Always gotta chime in your Two Cents... As said earlier: I don't need you guys to tell me how to be a parent.

This thread was not an invitation for personal experiences with bad kids or bad parents. This was to see if people had fun pics of their kids/neices/nephews/friends' kids climbing, to show off the next generation.

To be clear: I Do not give a shit what you think was said, to whom it was directed or any other matter of opinion.
