Hey guys I am looking into getting some new shoes here pretty soon and really like Evolv Predators and the Primes. I have a pair of tarantula's and they were a good shoe, but am looking for something more aggressive now. I need some help for sizing from my Sportiva's to these Evolv shoes because none of my stores in AR sell these Evolv's. I was also wanting to get some opinions on which shoes y'all like. Thanks TCN

I understand that. That is why I am trying to get some people's opinions on the shoe sizing. And people buy shoes off of the internet all the time. It would be more beneficial if I could go to a store and try them on then buy them cheaper off of the internet. But unfortunately I do not have a choice. If someone from AR knows of any store that has either of the shoes to try on then please send me a message!

The toe box in an evolv tends to be massive compared to sportiva, same with the heel cup. You can size it as tight as you want, but if you have a low-volume foot, you'll never fill the heel and you'll have dead space on the sides of your feet. If you HAVE to buy shoes online, try zappos since you can buy a few sizes and shoes and return the ones you don't want

Oh ok I see. I do like my sportiva's, but I want something more aggressive any suggestions? And sometimes they kill my achilles, but I just take them off for a min and let my feet rest. I just assume that is part of climbing! It is all worth it though!!

Go to the store that you bought your current shoes and try a bunch on... There are tons of "aggressive" shoes out there, to suggest just a couple would be silly. I personally wear Miuras and Moccasyms... If I didnt have a half dozen pair of shoes already, I'd consider getting the Katana Laceups

Yeah I will probably just go and try on a bunch of different shoes like you said and see how the different brands fit, or at least get a general idea and then make a decision. Wish I had the cash to have a dozen pairs of shoes! Unfortunately I have to choose one and make a good decision. Then try to make them last as long as possible!

If you don't have a store locally where you can try on shoes - you may look into Zappos.com (or similar sites). They offer free shipping both ways and have good customer service and product descriptions. If you can swing having your $$ temporarily tied up, you could order a couple of pairs and return what doesn't fit. Just a thought...I'm pretty new to climbing so I can't be of much help with specific fit/sizing questions. S

Yeah that was mentioned and sounds like a great idea, but i am about to go to college so I don't have spare money hanging around unfortunately. I have a store but they don't have the shoe that I want. Hopefully they will have a few of the same brand and I can mess around with the sizings on the different brand's of shoes. Thanks though! How long have you been climbing?

Definitely feel your pain on the lack of money. I just started earlier this year. I found a pair of used katanas in the classifieds here, but had gone to a local store and tried on 4-5 different shoes/brands to get an idea of what to look for and in what size. Very happy with my choice and happy I didn't pay full price for them either.

Yeah that is probably what I am going to do. That seems like the most logical thing anyway! And I have been climbing around the same amount of time as you have. I seriously love to climb it is the greatest sport ever!

Check out the REI garage sale, (first Saturday of the month usually), lots of dirt cheap gear and you might get lucky on sizes. Picked up a pair of unused Katana's for $20 at one. Unless you specifically need a particular shoes (usually when you already know the sizing you need and style you like due to owning one), it can't hurt to try on other shoes before committing your feet to several months of pain.

Sweet! We don't have an REI here in Arkansas. Does it happen online also? And your right about committing to one shoe, I guess the brand and look of the shoe probably does appeal to me eye. Truth be known I could hate the shoe whenever I try it on.

Unfortunately, no, the REI garage sale (official known as the used gear sale) is once a month in the store for returned stuff, though quite a lot of it is returned in new condition (just out of season, older, or not resellable so they don't restock it). The event is akin to a movie opening, people get in line way early in the morning to be first in. Especially if you are rather new to climbing I really wouldn't worry so much about the brand and style of shoe. I pretty much guarantee that as you get better you will probably dislike the first shoe you bought or the sizing you got. Just go to the local store and try on some shoes and ask for recommendations. Sometimes climbers give you shoe recommendations for particular models, but take them with a grain of salt because your foot shape is most likely not the same as theirs, and a lot of it is more about popularity of a particular brand then any objective benefits over other shoes in the same class that may be less popular

Well crap man that sucks! And only owning one pair of shoes, I haven't quite gotten my shoe sizing down yet. But having said that I do want to try other brands and see which I like best that is why I am leaning forward a certain brand of shoe. I know that getting the perfect sizing and brand of shoe for each person takes time. I just hope mine is a less expensive and less timely route! Haha! Thanks for your input though it really helped. Just wish we had an REI here cause I would totally be that crazy guy that camped out days in advance!
