I have a couple of these old soviet screwgate biners that I got from my dad. They make nice top-rope biners because they are from round stock and are nice to the rope, they also don't seem to wear at all. They are stamped 03/87 and just have a little bit of polish on the inside, no metal lost from 25 years of rope wear. They are solid titanium and feel absolutely bomber (smooth gate action, no burrs or anything else like that), but my partners sometimes get sketched when I tell them them they were made in the 80's. Are they bomber? Are there any pull tests on similar biners on-line? I would think solid titanium stock would make a pretty beefy biner.

Awesome. 2 of those together would hold a truck. I have a couple of Soviet Titaniums that are a sweet pinkish/purple color and have a steel gate. The locking mechanism is unlike any US make carabiner, and better too. I'll post a picture later.
