Hey, something I've been curious to find out is what you do if you are doing a 1 or 2 day climb and sleeping on a portaledge and you just happen to have to take a dump?

Poop into a bag (I've used ziplock ones in the past). Put it into your "poop tube". PVC pipe with a screw on lid that you haul up with your other gear. Throw it out when you get down from the wall.

A large, empty peanutbutter jar with some kitty littler in it works well too.

I certainly wouldn't take any glass up a wall, it's way too heavy and fragile. Get some Wag Bags, open them, squat, release, shake and bake, tie it up, put it in your Waste Case for proper disposal later.

[Apparently in response to Kartessa's suggestion about peanut butter jars...]

Mark, I know, like me, you're old-school and all that, but I really think she used "jar" generically - PB comes in plastic "jars" these days. Even mean Kartessa wouldn't suggest carrying glass jars on a wall. At least I don't think she would....

Cuz most here in the states are around 14-16 oz. and yeah I could fill one of those twice a day.

You have a big PB jar. Here in the states most PB jars are about 16 oz or .45 kilos.

So the consensus, and thus definitive, answer seems to be using a large plastic peanut butter jar as a poop depository. And to rehearse the act of going on a portaledge, you need to practice the act while in the front of an El Camino. If your ledge has a rain fly, you will also need to throw a blanket over your head.

I keep re-reading the post title and ask myself... "Who would want to crap in their portaledge?" I'd rather crap into a bag and drop it in my peanutbutter jar. Try getting shit out of the canvas after it's been sun-baked for a couple of days.
