Shocked parents are asking why their children were exposed to dangerous conditions after a rock climbing exercise turned to disaster.

Three people are missing in heavy seas off New Plymouth after two students apparently fell from Paritutu rock and an instructor dived in to save them. Police said the search for the students was to begin again around 7am.

God damn. Fingers are crossed they find something. That's really sad news.

Best wishes to the families and friends.

Unfortunately the authorities have moved from 'search and rescue' mode to 'recovery' mode.
