I did a set of reps on my rock rings last night with no problem only to let go and have the tip of my right middle finger be completely numb. No pain, no pops, no loss of strength but just a deep inner numbness. I woke up this morning with no discoloration or swelling of any kind but a residual inner numbing coming from what feel like directly under the finger nail. Any ideas on what this could be?

I am not sure what it is. I was working an unknown route earlier this summer, took whipper after whipper tring to pull the crux. after I got down I had the same type of sination you just described. after a month it got maby 50% feeling back and after two months the feeling is back to normal. So. . . maby ease off training a bit a give it some time. if the numbness does not goaway maby a DR. can give you an idea of the dammage.

Definitely take some time off and ice it. Consider seeing a doctor if its possible.

I saw a doc a few days later they said there was nothing to be done, simply you pinched a nerve and back off. But I still feel it go numb from time to time when opening doors etc but that is very temporary.

Just like the above responses.. i've done the same thing - sharp hold on a route, "rested" on it far too long, pinky finger went numb. Took a few weeks, but everything went back to normal. Not too much you can do but ease off of putting too much pressure on it for a while.
