Thatīs vicious stereotyping, my cams are nice and shiny because I donīt bother to place them. Some of them are Russian as well, not those modern Ukranian things.

majid_sabet wrote: * shiny cams as clean as hospital surgical equipment + 3 set of everything A friend of mine got a brand new triple rack to replace his oddball assortment of ratty gear, as a big gift for himself after starting a new job. The first few times he went climbing with it, he got quite a kick out of walking up to the rock, unloading his shiny new gear, basking in the derisive sideways looks from everyone around, making a few lame jokes about " how does this clippy thingie work?", and then flashing the hardest route in the area.

Yeah, it's a stereotype that doesn't always fit reality. But I've gotta tell you, I *love* the fact that in climbing, if I'm using older beat up equipment it's not assumed that I suck. Quite on the contrary - the guy who shows up at the crag with the most beat up looking rack is the guy everyone watches to see if he's going to be a superstar. You take a ski lesson with an older pair of skis and boots, the instructor will treat you like a retarded hillbilly who can't tell a mogul from a turnip! GO

I did feel ackward after I bought a set of FCU's. All shinny. I don't know about ski instructors, but I love that when I get on the ski lift I'm practically a celeb. All the kids get a kick out of my old straight skis.
