Never watch gymnastics competitions. Your head will explode. In general, they are dressing like that so as to minimize the clothing's interference with the climbing. Its the same reason that male swimmers wear speedos. Its not to titillate.

At a recent comp I attended I was particularly shocked to almost get a full butt shot of one of the girls (and I did say girl, not woman). I realize a lot of this comes down to comfort, but at the same time shouldn't one display at least some level of modesty and if they are going to be climbing for a crowd, consider that maybe what they're wearing is not appropriate for all those present? Here is a photo taken by another spectator highlighting what I am referring to at this specific comp. I realize many people will say that anyone can wear anything they want, but is there a line that should be drawn, especially when climbing in front of spectators? [image]https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/546043_413345108714096_1849050572_n.jpg[/image] What if she were "fully clothed" in a shirt that spewed profanity? Or a religious statement about some deity who died for us? Or a beanie on a warm summer day? Or... what if she is perfectly comfortable being a symbol of a healthy, in-shape woman knowing that it may draw the attention of males and specifically chooses an outfit that will garner that attention? As you so clearly put it, it is her choice unless a competition mandates a specific dress code. As a first post, nice troll. I bit.

Funny - I recently saw that image on Pinterest and my first thought was "i hope there's no guys belaying someone on a hard route near by..." and second "Why is there tape designating where this route goes?" I would not call this a "full butt shot" - but I also can imagine that the person got quite a number of "hottie" comments from people who were there, and also have no doubt a good number of rc.comers have downloaded the image to go into their climbing pron files. I would say that choice is up to that person. In Brazil, she might be wearing a thong, and then you WOULD get a near full butt shot. But to turn the tables.... Oughtn't men be more cognizant of the effect a climbing harness has on their junk? I mean come on - on some guys, you can nearly see the fruit of the loom, the way their harness....harnesses their energy. If a guys sees that the style of pants he has on ends up...accentuating...a certain part of his body, shouldn't modesty prevail - shouldn't he wear a long shirt to cover himself so as not to put himself so on display?

Right on, lady-friend! But I don't want the boys to get modest - that's how I sell climbing to my female friends so I can have more lady-climbing-partners! I tell them about all the nice buff guys who walk about shirtless and mangear all outlined for the world to consider!

Meh. No different than the throngs of ladies (and handful of men, to be fair) who climb in yoga pants/spandex. Better that we all just get over our hang-ups and stop staring at each other's crotches. Unless of course such staring is invited, in which case, who cares what sort of trousers you're wearing. J (I just doomed this to campground when I typed "crotch" didn't I?)

Nothing in particular going on with climbing, people wear what they wear, deal with it.

Not to mention safety issues: it can be downright dangerous pinning on the number:

This has the makings of being a great thread. For example, this is the uniform she's required to wear:
