hello there I am a newbie in this forum and would like to get some advice with regards to being a beginner in rock climbing.Do's and don't of a first timer rock climber.

I think it's best to start bouldering then move to top roping.

I think it is best to start with top roping, then sport climbing, then trad, then aid, then ice, then alpine, and after you have already done all of the real climbing genres and you have nothing left to do, then you can try to keep yourself occupied with bouldering.

I recommend logging on, reading the FAQs, then posting to threads, the posting to threads no less than 3 years old, then starting your own threads, then building an FAQ for the next climber. This way, you need not even be outside to climb.

OK, now for the real answer to you. Go to a climbing gym near you. I find that you meet people from all backgrounds. If you can bring a friend to learn with you, its even better. When you get there, explore Top Roping and Bouldering. It will give you a great foundation for practicing both in a safe environment. Plus you get to meet some great people(depending on the gym). Bottom line, Just go and immerse yourself in it.
