Hi, I have a 60m single rope but I don't know the diameter. The codes on the ends of the rope are CE0120 and UIAA 1, but I don't think these identify the diameter. Is there some way that I can find out the diameter? (Other than emptying my loft for the original receipt?? (I think 10.5mm, but I'm not certain...) Thanks.

Useally rope come with two bands on each end. the first has the CE and UIAA certificate, and another one with the brand and size of the rope.
If its missing than there not a really easy way of knowing.
Do you know the brand of your rope? Maby posting a picture of the rope some one will reconize it and be able to tell you what you have.

My first response is to say that beyond the obvious distinctions of being fat or skinny, who cares? If you think it's about 10.5 then we have established that it's not so skinny that you are worried about getting enough friction from a belay device.

If you really care, you can wrap a thread around your line and divide circumference by 3.14.

That wont tell you much. The UIAA tests the diameter of ropes by hanging a 5kg weight on it and measuring the rope in three spots with a caliper. The second reading is perpendicular to the first and third. They then average the results. But ropes change diameter overtime, even with just a few uses. So to know the true OEM rating, you need to know what rope it is.

Post a good photo of the rope here and maybe someone will recognize it.
