To all whom have had any type of hernia surgery i ask: what kind of surgery did you have? how often and how hard are you climbing? and how long ago was your surgery? thank you, (signed: fella who's soon to be cut open but wants to climbe again)

Flexible mesh placed to repair an inguinal hernia (cause unknown). Dug up a specialist who'd worked with a lot of athletes vs just going to whoever through my health care provider.

I didn't alter my climbing before or after, only had to mellow out after surgery for about 8 weeks total (I was traversing at 2 weeks and climbing lightly up to 8 weeks in, just did what my doctor told me). I boulder sport/trad climb indoor and out, fall all the time on sport. I climb in the 5.11s.

I am occasionally aware of the hernia but not usually. While I do fall a lot I'm not one of those who madly flail for holds or have a lot of violent out of control falls. If you do that sort of thing I could see you maybe having a problem with the repair. Personally I take a bit extra care to try and keep my core engaged, you will at times be slightly aware that you do have piece of something down there.

my doctor informed me had I been more of a weight lifter type he would have used a less flexible mesh. I do lift weights and do other sports fyi.

if you search you can dig up a lot of other posts from others on their experiences, i did this before I had my surgery as well ;)

good luck ! from my experience and what I've read from others I think you should most likely be fine.
