Two questions: What do you do with flappers, and is hand balm worth it? I've gone bouldering about 4 times now, and my hands keep ripping apart. i've been giving them plenty of time to heal, but flappers can get pretty annoying. Also wondering if climbing balm is worth it, does it help the hands get tougher quicker or heal faster or what? thanks guys, first post and this is a sick website Laugh

Climb more, you'll develop calluses. I'm not sure about the climbing balm, (I have think skin apparently), but skin is often a limiting factor on how much some people can train/climb.

Superglue and tape can do wonders.

Come on guys... his name is "loves to spooge" and he's been bouldering 4 times but already feels comfortable slinging lingo like "flappers" around. Don't think this is a troll huh?

Don't know about balm, personally I don't want my hands milky soft and moist....as corrado33 said you gotta let your hands develop those callouses.

Also, nail clippers are a must to cut away loose skin when you're out there....better to cut away that annoying piece of skin than having it continue to pull and tear as you go.

I agree you have to harden your skin with calluses over time but some climbing balms may work without preventing calluses growth.
I use apotheberry lotion bars after climbing to help clean out those extra skins and heal cuts. Still grew nice thick calluses though.
