I'm working on projecting the costs to climb at Red River Gorge for a month during the summer. For those who have climbed at Red River Gorge how much money did it cost you. (assuming all gear has already been purchased)

Climbing is free, camping is $2/night at Miguels. Food can be $15/day if you eat there or much less if you pick it up in Lexington. Usual grocery store prices apply.

It is also worth noting that there is no climbing within walking distance if you camp at Miguel's or Lago Linda's. Drive times range between about 15 to 30 minutes each way. Beer at the beer trailer is regular liquor store price, and the Kroger in nearby Stanton (15 minutes each way?) is the only reasonable choice for picking up food if you cook. Buying in Lexington is marginally cheaper if you're going for a rest day anyway. Edit: I should also mention that climbing really isn't free in the Red. If you're climbing at Muir Valley a donation is strongly recommended. This money goes towards helping Muir maintain trails, help equippers with some bolts, and even give you a warm place to crap. If you're climbing at the PMRP, a donation is also common practice. This money goes directly to the RRGCC and could be used for future acquisitions of land to climb on and infrastructure maintenance to the PMRP. Beer trailer crag, you should buy some beer from the namesake retail establishment. The forest service land is tax supported, so also not 'free' per se.

I'm just going to throw this out there....beer prices...at least to a canadian are amazing!! ...half the price of an 24 case that it costs in ontario....so if you're from Canada, you can bet you won't be paying what you're used to for case!.. leaves more room for an extra Miguel's pizza night!

I had some friends manage 2 months there without buying groceries. There's a dirtbag box at Miguel's that's just overflowing on Sunday afternoons when the weekend warriors leave all their groceries that they didn't eat because all they wanted was pizza. Also depending on your level of ditbagness, you could always help prevent pizza waste by assisting people who don't want to eat the other 1/2 of their pizza. Keep in mind too, that cooking requires fuel, and considering the amount of time you're planning on spending, it's worth considering in your budget. If you pay attention to your spending, you could survive (decently) and climb for about $200 for the month if you scavenge hard, or be relatively comfortable with about $600.

Not the best place to spend time in the summer. Think about heading north.
