Nothing new. Unsure

No wonder why:
In reply to:
Forty-six percent of Americans believe that God created humans in their present form at one point within the past 10,000 years, according to a survey released by Gallup in June. That number has remained unchanged for the past 30 years, since 1982, when Gallup first asked the question on creationism versus evolution.

Which is why roughly 46% of Americans are incapable of understanding and learning the science skills needed for good 21st century jobs.

It sure seems that very often one's religiosity and their grasp on reality is inversely proportional to the number of teeth in one's mouth. Crazy

So, who is he playing to when he makes such statements? See italics above, as, unfortunately, that is not an insignificant number of people.

He's running for President. He can't get through the primaries w/o appeasing said toothless idiots.

This is why the Republicans have a real problem. They want to appeal to people with ideas, but these are the ideas that come along for the ride. You can't have your feet firmly planted in the 13th century and run for office in the 21st.

True that. Having the public at large vote in the primaries seems to me to be doing damage to the country at large. We'll see what happens when the Dems have to run one in 2016.

Me, I'm ready to take candidate nomination back to smoke filled rooms with party bosses and the convention system we replaced recently. That way the parties could do a better job of rejecting extreme shit and actually evolving with the times.

Rubio could very well be the GOP's candidate in 2016. The Hispanic vote could be what gets a Republican back in the White House. Hispanics are largely Christian and socialy conservative.
The GOP couldn't be dumb enough to ignore that fact, could they??

Nope... But they could be dumb enough to still believe that just getting the vote from 1 segmant of the population will win them the White House.

But, also remember that Hispanics are largely Cathies, not Fundies, therefore they are not in the group that Rubio is wooing in the OT above. (i.e., Fundie retards who believe the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, ignoring the facts)

They are easy to spot here in the SouthEast, as they usually fly this on their truck:

It's kinda cool actually... I often wished stupid people would have a neon sign above them at all times saying they are stupid, as that would save me the time and frustration... I could instantly avoid them like a traffic cone. But, this flag does that most often, as they proudly fly that flag, trumpeting to the world that they are stupid.

Also note that they do NOT like "dem thar Mexi-CANS or HiSSS-panics".

And let's be honest here... How many people that would fly that flag, would actually vote for the 'Socialist Black guy'? Point being -- 'Redneck intelectual inbread" equals a Southern Republican.

I agree with that. I think when conventions actually chose the nominees, better candidates resulted.

Then let the Party's candidates fight a Thunderdome cage match. "Two enter, only one leaves"

I read the link, and I don't get what you're ranting on about.

I think he loses essentially zero voters with his cagey answer. Unless you disbelieve the poll numbers quoted in the article, the only people who would have a real problem with what he said are the 15 percent who wouldn't vote for him in a million years anyway.

Saying that he's only appealing to toothless southern rednecks with such a statement is just plain ignorant. Most Americans are religious, and they expect the person they vote for to share their beliefs.

My issue is, as stated in my initial comment, his DENIAL of reality in how old the Earth/Universe is. Saying it is a mystery is denial. It's not like he hasn't been exposed to reality. Why is it an issue? Because having a potenial POTUS who practices denial like that could potentially be very bad for the education of our kids.

The rest is pretty much this with a generous portion of this included... But there is a kernal of truth, in my last few sentances, no? In fact, you gotta admit, that it is pretty spot on. Wink

Yes, of course it is. But it's an expedient denial. Same thing politicians do every single time they're asked a question they don't want to answer. Nothing terribly exciting here.
