I will be traveling to Guilin and Yangshuo at the end of Dec 2012 and early part of january 2013... Looking for climbing partner. I can lead and will be bringing my harness, shoes but no rope. I'm from USA and traveling for a month through SE Asia and will end my trip with a week of climbing in the area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey, I'm also in a sort of similar situation. I'm going to be working in Guangzhou for 3-4 months and that is when I get a 4 day break! I have shoes and a harness as well and no rope as well. I haven't been in Guangzhou long and not in the whole climbing community here yet. Hopefully there will be a climbing trip there that we could join! |

Hi Gordon, thanks for your post. I hope we can catch up for some climbing.. heard that the weather may be too cold around late Dec - Jan. I think i will not make it up to Hanoi and then onto Guilin until after the new year. I'm spending new year in Saigon and then catching the train up... I will get back online and let you know the exact date as it gets closer..If the weather is not good in Yangshuo then i may head to Philippines to do some deep water soloing instead..[reply]

Hey man, It's not TOO cold to climb in Yangshuo in December. IF you find the sunny spots and providing its a mild winter, the temps could be fine. I'd keep an eye on it. You never know. I hung around Yangshuo for a couple years. I've wintered there once. It was the worst winter in 100 years. I think you'd be fine heading up to Yangers in December. I've even seen temps in January go from cold, in the 30's, to hot, in the 80's, over night. There are plenty of locals that may around then that will be good to hit up for some beta on climbers (with ropes) in town. Although most head to Thailand for the winter. (idea?) Good luck and try to stay at the Rock n' Grill. Great food, rooms, and service. Perfect place for morning coffee and french toast. Have fun guys.

Thanks Matt for your message. The weather does sound a little unpredictable.. I will try to go 2 Yangshuo during the spring or fall. Don't have that much time on this trip so I will just going 2 go 2 Tonsai Thailand.. Was there last year at the same time frame n the weather was fabulous... Hanoi is cold n rainy right now so I'm skipping going there all together so no overnight train to Guilin going 2 b taken Merry Xmas n Happy New Year
