I recently got back from a deployment and have gained a few pounds. My current harness fit me before but the waist strap only has about 4 inches of smack after I loop the strap back through. Otherwise the harness is undamaged and fully functional. Two questions: 1. Is 6 inche of slack just some arbitrary figure I have been hearing with no meritt? 2. Would it be wise to buy a larger harness to use until I lose the extra pounds. Thanks in advance for your responses, even dicks who feel the need to point out that I am a noob. (Its why I am asking)

Four inches sounds like enough to me.

or ... Select a harness based on intended use and fit. The waist should fit snugly across the hipbones. Most manufacturers recommend that re-threaded straps have at least a 10cm tail when closed. Check the recommendations for your harness. http://www.mec.ca/...lmets/HarnessFit.jsp

Off the cuff I'd think it would be fine but why not go with what the Mfg recommends?

It is a black diamond harness and I feel stupid for asking now. I checked all the labels and too figure, the one under the waist strap indicated that three inches was enough slack on this model. Thanks for the help.
