Hi- I am very interested in learning the proper way to climb with gear, and finding someone to climb with. What kind of rope and harness should I buy? How do I find a partner? What other hardwear should I buy- what should my rack include? I guess I'll be a "traditional" kind of climber from what I understand so far. How should I train? Thank you for taking the time to reply [ This Message was edited by: mountainrat on 2001-11-22 12:31 ]

I would buy some climbing shoes. Boreal Diablos are great for all around climbing, especially for beginners. Buy a chalk bag and some chalk, you can find this at all climbing and/or all REI stores. Take your new gear to a climbing gym and get some lessons on safety and proper belaying/climbing techniques. Then once you've done all this go out and buy a harness. Then just climb whenever you can and you will meet some climbing partners.

expensive gear is love =P alot of people buy what is cheap, then upgrade later. Isn't that just a waste of money??? Misty Mountain harness, thing is great Mammut ropes ect... Buy what you really want, if you have to save for it, you gotta save for it. In the end you'll be happy with your investment. Not be putting money away because you bought an ATC that cost 4 bucks less and you want a different one?!?!

mountain rat, the world needs more climbers like you... those who climb whether they have gear, partners or not. pick up the torch and run with it. dont think too much about the gear and such; just follow your desires and the gear will take care of itself. if you love the rock you will hear its voice. namaste.
