Do you have any experience setting top ropes for yourself? If you don't, it's a good idea to take a class. Contact me to set up a class with Redpoint Adventures any day of the week. If you already know how to set tope ropes try these classic climbs: Great Falls- Cornice 5.7 Romeo's Ladder 5.6+ Carderock- Sterling's Crack 5.7 Swayback Layback 5.8 Go to West Virginia and check out links there for info on climbing schools. You should be climbing comfortably at 5.9 TR before attempting to lead 5.4- 5.5. Hire a proffesional guide or second for a leader you know to have experience your first time out. If I hear of anyone heading for Seneca I will let you know. TRAIN HARD CLIMB SAFE REDPOINT * ADVENTURES [ This Message was edited by: k2exp2010 on 2001-08-25 18:25 ]

Hey K2, Website is not up yet. Look for a link in Routes>North America>U.S.>Washington DC in the next week. Snowflake 5.6 is at the Great Falls, Seclusion area. Next time you rig Romeo's Ladder try Romeo's Left 5.8. Make sure to rig the anchor a little closer to the river side. This is still one of my favorite climbs.

Cornice, the climb I mentioned, is probably the overhang that you you refer to. I'm assuming that you mean roof features. Most of Great Falls overhangs. Try: Great Falls-The Dirge 5.9+ or Foops Jr. 5.10- [ This Message was edited by: redpointadventures on 2001-08-31 09:29 ]

Also check out regional forums and route listings for Great Falls and Carderock. Let rockclimbing.com members know what you are climbing and what you think of the climbs. See my listing under Gorky Park. This is a good way for climbers new to areas to find the best climbs. I'm interested in taking a class with Redpoint... I am available any Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Saturday, starting with being available this Sat., the 24, then two weeks from then, on the 8th, and so on. Thanks for any help you can give me. Please contact me with any dates and some prices. I am a beginner, and I have only been free climbing some short faces near home, and now I'm hooked- I want to learn to do it for real. Thanks.

Hi Folks! I highly recommend shelling out $30 and buying Eric Horst's new book, Rock Climbers Guide to MD, VA and WV (Falcon Press). It contains select route listings for Carderock, Great Falls, and Sececa (80 or so routes listed as opposed to the 400 or so in Tony Barnes' Seneca Guide). It also contains lots of new infor on other crags in VA and MD, such as the very excellent Annapolis Rocks. You can find a link to it at Amazon on my website, www.wvclimbing.com. Stu Hammett P.S. I'm always looking for partners for the seneca area, feel free to mail me.

A great climb at Great Falls is "stop the presses Mr. Eakin" its in the dihedrals area. No trees though so you have to know how to set up anchors yourself. Anyone looking for a partner email me Svcmastr@hotmail.com [ This Message was edited by: henryinnova on 2001-12-23 00:56 ]
