Hi, I知 a new climber (1year). I知 15 years old and I go to a small gym with wood walls.

I see all these pros who have started at really young ages! Am I too old to climb to get to pro stage? I think I知 progressing fairly fast. I can climb V4 and I can project V6 and get it. But I feel left behind because it feels like I started late. I try very hard and, I go to comps. I didn稚 make it to divisional this year but I will next. So, am I too old to make it to pro status by 20 at the speed I知 going? By the way I知 mainly into bouldering, but I train top roping too.

Hi Etross!

I知 a new bicycler (1 year). I知 17 years old and I go to a small parking lot with a dirt surface. I'm a little afraid of the thought of driving a car.

I see all these folks with drivers licenses driving around who have started at really young ages - 15! Am I too old to drive to get a license? I think I知 progressing fairly fast. I can put the kickstand up once I'm going and I can plan a 180 degree turn and get it. But I feel left behind because it feels like I started late. I try very hard and, I go to the grocery store too. I didn稚 make it out to the edge of town this year but I will next. So, am I too old to get a drivers license by 20 at the speed I知 going? By the way I知 mainly into multi-purpose paths, but I train on the right side of the white line too.

Maybe, but maybe not.

How old was Chris Sharma when he started climbing? How fast did he progress?

You're not too old. If you want something go out and get it.

You're far better off studying hard to get a job. Climb for pleasure.

In any pursuit you take up, there are always going to be people who started younger than you, or before you. If you're passionate and smart about it, you'll often catch up to them as they grow complacent, or plateau, or just get sick of it.
At the same time, there are always going to be people who are way better than you, and that's just life.
To answer your question, a lot of people have "gone pro" much later in life than where you're at. Your (or anyone else's) chances however, are slim to none.

Meanwhile, Mirko Caballero climbed 1 V12, 3 V11's and 8 V10's during one week in Bishop, CA.

He is 11 years old.

Not really. Etross is obviously too young to understand how ludicrous his question is, which you attempted to point out with hyperbole. He's also apparently too young to understand hyperbole as well.

What is your concept of a "pro climber"? Seriously.

Yeah, probably really. You could tell most of those things from his original post so giving him an answer he wasn't very capable of using probably deserves the response it got. If you have any earnest desire to communicate with someone.

Yeah - on that level too. The other being that this was the Beginners Forum.

Besides - "hmph" was a kind of classy response. This could be someone wiser than his/her years. Cool

I thought the topic was asking if it was too late to get to the top of a climb...
