Hi,
I go to mexico in March, April with a friend. Do you know if it's OK to climb in the North in this period (montmerey, El Salto, ...) or if weather is to warm ?
Also, we want to climb in El Chonta and Jilotepec but it isn't easy to find information about the area. Has someone already be there ? We would like to know if we can camp or if there are cheap hotel from where we can go to the cliff by bus.
Thanks
P.S : If you have some advice about other good spots, they are welcome !!
Clément

March is great in Northern Mexico but you may experience rain; temperatures are nice and shade is readily available in Potrero.

Just returned from Chonta; posted a few pics recently on this site. We stayed in Taxco, 30 min drive south, in a nice house. I have many friends that camp in the cave too. Easy to do just bring your food and water. Leonel and Rodolfo Procopio will take your packs to the cave on their burros.

I ran into two amigos from France camped there: Patrick and Nathalie Cabrio.

We also spent time in Jilo. It is about 4 to 5 hours north of Chonta but an easy bus ride away. Camping is available with amenities or free if you just drop your tent at the base of the Huevo (huge overhung face). On weekends you will share space with the locals. Friendly too.

ONce you get to Jilotepec, take a cab to the area. Tell him to take you to "Las Peñas de Descani" and they can drop you off at the end of the dirt road. From there go right up the steps to the area.

Potrero Chico will be hot but not extreme, and the way the walls are oriented there is always shade somewhere.
