mammut galaxy is a good rope. I don't personally like 11mil ropes because they're to hard to feed, and they suck for rapping with. When you're setting up TRs, might aswell rap instead of walking back down, right?

HB sherrif and Trango Tuber I mean, to take the slack it sometimes is harder. And rappeling with a thicker rope blows. Using a 10.5 seems to be no problem, but bigger then that sucks, especially simul rappelling

I've rapped for two year almost exclusively on 11mm ropes just fine. Plus with a non-gri-gri type belay device, and 11mm locks off a lot easier than a smaller ropes. For TopRoping, 11mm is the way to go.

Yes, I use the pyramid too, I called it a tuber though. My bad I found that is it really unsmooth, but maybe I was using a peice of crap rope... I find 10.2 is about the perfect diameter for leading or top roping, but I guess it is personal preference. I doubt I'd buy a 11mil though.

For leading, I use my 9.9 BlueWater, and for TR, my 10.5 BlueWater. I like BW rope so thats what I buy. Sterling Marathon is also realy good.

The standards authority covering ropes(among other things) is the UIAA. Briefly, the standard the rope must meet is: (w)number of simulated falls, of fall factor(x) over an edge of (y)millimetres (these standards people are French, you know) with the rope carrying a weight of (z)kilograms. Got that? Not to worry, if your country is like mine any climbing rope you can buy will have to have that standard approval, but check the packaging and/or the tips of the rope for the UIAA stamp. 11mm is the way to go for top roping. I don't think the brand is that relevant. If you are planning to be in the gym a fair bit, no need to buy a double dry core, teflon coated wonder rope. Unless your belayer kicks his can of coke over on your rope, you are wasting your money. The only gimmick I have found useful so far is a center mark braded into the shieth. Even if your new 11mm top rope dosent have a center mark, you can fix that with a marker pen. Something worth noting is: HB make two sizes of Sheriff. One for 8-9mm rope and one for 10-11mm rope. You wernt trying to jam an 11mm rope into an 8mm belay device were you Dustinap? I used a Black Dimond ATC for quite a while and now use an HB Sheriff on my 11mm rope with no drama.
