Edelrid Anniversary 9.7mm Rope

So, I'm shopping for a new rope...

My partners are refusing to play with me until I put down my "scary string of death". I still think the old rope is fine, but after a bit of chopping, I'm coming close to 40m remaining.

It's time for a new rope.

Here's the deal. I've found something that interests me, the specs look good on paper, and I'm usually more concerned about colour than handling.

The Edelrid Anniversary 9.7mm looks pretty, in an ice blue colour, its a bipatern, dry treated rope with 31%/9.2% Dynamic/Static elongation (yay stretchy and soft!), weighs a scant 61g/m but is UIAA rated for 9 test falls.

Here's the best part: It's only $185... squeaking in under my $200 budget.

So here comes the question part:

Is this too good to be true? I know Edelrid has some cheaper ropes, and some higher end ones, anyone had any experience with their longevity?

Also, considering I'm in Canada, I dont want to pay shipping fees or ridiculous duty at the border, can anyone recommend something stretchy, dry treated (in case it gets cold enough to go ice climbing this year), and under $200. That or if it comes in Bubblegum Pink, I'm sold.

That, and the colour is all wrong

And dont forget, since its not made in North America, I have to pay to import it... there's another $20 in duties...

Despite its $185 price tag on the Edelrid, It'll cost me $130 when all is said and done...

Stop agonizing over it and just go ahead and buy the Edelrid. It's not like it won't work if it's not "perfect". It's a rope. And it'll be a door mat in a few years anyway. Ropes are consumables IMO. And yes, color is the most important thing Wink

Normally I wouldn't agonize over it, except it won't be in stock until early Feb.

Means I have time to bug you guys

well that's a damn shame. free shipping down here. The color is sub awesome, but the price makes up for it. You can have 2 ropes for the price of one. crap, maybe I should buy a second one.

I think you must be playing with us. You posted a rope just a bit ago what cost less than $100. How do you get by with one rope anyway? I have will over 15. Edelrid makes kick assed product and they invented kernmantel rope, but they typically don't mark the middles so plan on buying a rope marker.

ps, maybe check to see if yer sponsors will get it for ya.

The one I want, I can't have right now... The other in-stock option is a mammut transformer.

That's the plan, but since I want a rope before I go away, I was looking for any suggestions that are comparable to that rope in both specs and price.

God forbid you give a useful response.

whait a minute. . . You work at MEC. . . ????
Use your employee discount and get a rope. I meen Elderid makes good ropes and all but you should have a bunch of good ropes to select form that fall under you $200 price limit if you dont have to pay retail.

Ok here a a bunch of Canada based gear stores check them out and seed if that floats your boat. I just googled this list so I hold to account of accuracy.

http://www.altitude-sports.com/

http://www.mountainmagic.com/

you work there and you want us to tell you what to buy ????

just go buy any decent rope ... ask the people who work in yr climbing department what they use

hopefully you dont work in the climbing department yourself Wink

i mean honesty, between all the beals, mammuts, sterlings, maxims, edelrids, etc at MEC .... you cant make a simple rope selection?

Gear express has that Rocklight for a buck 29. Since the ebay is blocked at work, can't tell you how the prices compare.

http://www.gearexpress.biz/...mp;Product_Code=6117

Then there's this bipattern for 145:
http://www.gearexpress.biz/...p;Product_Code=5405C

But be sure to check out all their ropes. they got a bucket load well under 2hun.

Could you have it shipped to the local post office in Vegas/JTree before your trip?
