How much will your taxes jump?

The Wall Street Journal is helping you figure it out:

http://online.wsj.com/...leTabs%3Dinteractive

They list a few common scenarios... you know, a single mom with two kids, a married couple with 4 kids, a retired couple, a young single person...

I am really glad to know the retired couple struggling n mere $180,000 will be protected from tax increase.

Wait, did I say they show TYPICAL scenarios? Nevermind...

I love the heartbreaking graphic that goes along with it. Because the single mother who won't be able to feed her children because of tax hikes makes $200+k. Right.

Well I can tell you this,

Being unemployed and only having my wife working our taxes went up $70 a paycheck due to the raising of the payroll tax.

Now that may not seem like much but when your house hold income is now half of what you had and you have a dog and a diabetic that's a lot each month. In truth we had a very hard time trimming $140 from out monthly budget and we live well within our means, don't have credit card debt and our mortgage is only for $159K.

I know, the paycut is going to suck.

I just can't believe that WSJ would use examples so far removed from reality. I would have expected them to look at more typical scenarios, I don't know-- at least one or two examples that represent median income, or below.

According to their "typical" examples, nobody is making less than $100K.

Hahah!

Yeah this is ridiculous. I don't know many people here in the midwest that make $100k a year. Maybe a few couples who make that much but individuals, nope.

WSJ writes articles for their subscribers. That's how they survive as a publication.

The reality of a WSJ subscriber is different from the reality of the general population.

Check this out: In the WSJ main geographic area (NY, NJ, CT) There are a LOT of counties with median household income (2009) of mor than $74K. The chart is REALLY interesting for geographic spread:

http://en.wikipedia.org/...dian_income_2009.png

Over the whole country:

Fascinating. I learn something every time I go looking at this stuff.

I agree that the numbers are specific to their core audience demographics, but why all the sad faces on the people!?

I'd be sad too if my after tax income was only enough to support a small country.

I always get sad when someone charges me more for something without giving more for what I pay.

Personally, I think anyone who makes over 40,000 a year should be subject to higher taxes this time around.

Relative to what I make, not much. I will gladly pay a little extra to try to balnce out the debt vs income of the Fed, AND to continue to pay for the bulk of poor ignorant conservatives in the Red States to hipocritically live off the government's teet while complaining about "entitlements", yet believing it is Brown or Blue that is the problem.

Yep... It is the Blue that pays for the Red.
