I feel like such a grown up. Only smoked the marijuanas twice. Mostly its been booze and pharmaceuticals. Its amazing the number of people who sell their scripts instead of taking em themselves.

You might have asked for it directly though.

May have been to subtle. I neglected to reference where "I came over" from. Edited the post. We'll see if anybody picks up on it now.
The rewrite reads better.

I'm thinking about stealing the idea and turning it in to something of a challenge. I feel like we could do better than 2 TR's in an entire year.

Hell, just us PCIers could do better and we don't even climb.
Hey true that.
On a related note. I got some really old REI binners I wuz thinking of pulling out of retirement to do some trolling with. They're in good shape, just big, fat, heavy, old, pre UUIA, and REI branded. ONly problem is that I only have 4 of them. I also have a couple bigger fatter heavier REI Pears.

For you troglodytes who don't even wander in to general anymore. If you have an old pair of shoes you don't plan to resole, you should donate them here.

Story time....

Last Sunday I was going to go out for a day of skiing with my pretty laborador....

but as I got up there to where I wanted to go skiing, I began to realize that the snow conditions sucked..... but however; ice conditions were looking up....

so I finished my drive and did a large loop; connecting several highways that I hadn't traveled before; in search of ice.

I found some:

As soon as I got cell service again, I called up my partner

"Hey...you have no desire at all to climb 4 pitches of local water fall ice, right?"

After a little more discussion, we both called in sick for the next day of work (Monday). ....having decided that due to the warm weather outlook for the next week; it was going to fall down in the next few days. We had to get on it.

We met up at 7 am and drove the 45 minutes to the ice.

We parked at a backwoods hotel/bar and hiked two miles down the tracks to our climb.

This is Mathias hiking:

This is Mathias running:

We finally got to the base of our climb. Easy two miles.

This is Mathias looking like a badass:

So, we gear up, rope up, and start up. We left a small bit of gear at the bottom. First aid kit, lunch, extra water, and approach shoes.

I don't have a lot of climbing pictures. As I was the only one taking them.

The climbing wasn't too technically difficult. WI3 with sections of verglass, chandaliers, and mixed. The real issue was our ice tools.....

My tools:

And my partners tools:

Yeah, I know; fucking hilarious!

I also gave my partner this tool, but it was never upholstered...

We climbed a short pitch to get off the tracks, then did another rope length. I had my belay on climber's left in a perfect dry crack.

Every now and then a train would come by.

When Mathias was ten feet from my belay; here comes a frontloader/back hoe down the tracks. He almost drove past us; stopped; backed up; and parked his rig right at the base of the climb.

"Oh, shit....we're about to get kicked out for trespassing." I thought.

We watch the guy get out and walk over to the drainage ditch where we stashed out kit.

He hasn't seen us yet. He stopped because he saw my dry bags.

It's amazing how rarely people look up.

We watched this guy rifle through my stuff. He looked through my whole first aid kit and checked out everything in my lunch. As he looks through, he's stashing everything on the back of his loader. It's obvious now, that he's taking everything.

"Dammit! That's my lunch!" I muttered under my breath to Mathias.

"Do you want to yell something?" He says back to me.

"If I do, we've scrapped the climb. What's more important?"

"It's your stuff. How much is everything worth?"

"I don't know, 60ish. Wait, how much are dry bags...? Dammit. A lot. Should I yell?

"Well, he's not taking my fucking shoes, I know that. If he picks up my shoes, I'm yelling something."

It was about this time that he got to my water bottle. He picked it up. We could see him turning the Nalgene in his hands, eyeing all the climbing stickers. He then opened it and poured out the water.

"He just poured out my water!"

Then he saw the shoes. He started to walk over to them.

Right then, we think he realized we probably weren't very far away. He looked up.

The "Oh shit" look on his face was almost funny.

"Goodmorning!" I yelled down in my most friendly tone. I added a big sweeping wave of my arm in greeting.

"Shit, shit..." I'm thinking. We're about to get kicked out And this climb is going to melt out tomorrow!

Luckily, the operator took all my stuff back off the back hoe, held them in the air for me to see, and set it all on a rock to the side of the tracks. With a wave, he got back in his tractor and motored on down the tracks.

Whew!

Onward with the climb!

The ice sucked. Several mantels in a row. All with verglas on the top of each.

finally, I got to an overhung section. It ended with a mantel onto verglas with horrible feet on dry rock.

Of my two tools; my hummingbird had been working great. My hybrid piolet on the other hand had already pulled out twice on me. I was psyched out and looking at the hardest move of the climb yet. I backed off.

I climbed to a tree and we rapped out. We climbed 200 feet of a 400 foot climb.

As I rapped down to Mathias at the bottom I asked "What are we calling this climb?"

"Oh shit!"

I laughed.

Then he offers his real answer: "How about 'I Almost Lost My Lunch' "

There it was.

Our hike out was uneventful. Our burgers and beer at the Hotel/bar were fantastic.

Packing after the climb:

Hike out:
