Hi everybody
My wife and I are going for a wedding near Berne, Switzerland. We are going to be traveling around for about three weeks and we would like to squeeze a little bit of climbing if possible.
What would be your recommendation for sport climbing, single or multi-pitch in the 5.10 range in Switzerland and northern Italy? Easy access via public transit or shortish hike is a most, three weeks is not much and my wife is not that avid of a climber that she would want to take too much time.

Well right at the moment itīs all white and snowy, the time of year matters a bit!

Arco Italy is great i even climbed there in January. Great town and people

I'm partial because I lived here for a year in college, but you may want to check out Mont Saleve. It's just across the French-Swiss border from Geneva.

It depends as well how much you like hot weather when considering Arco (Lago di Garda) in N. Italy. It can be pretty hot there at that time(30 deg. Celsius and even more). On the other hand its a climbing and outdoor paradise. And if you dont like polished routes I would try to avoid the most famous sectors (Nago, Massone, etc...). Fortunately there are many other possibilities... You can avoid the hot by trying to climb a little bit higher above the see level. My tip for arco is sector Val Lomasone...beautiful setting, very nice climbing in all grades, without almost any people... More here: http://www.ukclimbing.com/...ok/crag.php?id=16996

Hardly makes it in the "Easy access via public transit or shortish hike" stakes though, itīs an all-day drive between the two.

but like usual the database hasnīt been filled in so the sector/route number part is valueless. You want "klettergarten" for single pitch sport routes.
You need to pick an crag and then research a bit more Iīm afaraid, I only know about Grimsel, Tessin and the granite areas in Switzerland.

Check out the Plaisir Selection guidebook for Switzerland, it has tons of routes in that range, some bolted, some not, some partially. The Dauphine Alps have some beautiful moderate granite routes. Alefroide in particular has a great 5.10 on a pillar, 7 pitches, fairly well bolted with a few placements here or there.
