They were not dumped in a well in Homeros! They were abducted from Hidalgo and killed 30 miles away in Mina, a town to the north.

Horrible news that hurts everyone. Condolences to the familys of the deceased members of Kombo Kolombia.

From all the reports that I read, the band was in Hidalgo and forced into vehicles and dumped in Mina.

I don't think any of this transpired at Homero's.

It's a horrible tragedy and my heart goes out to the victims families and all of the people whose lives depend on money that the climbers bring to the Hidalgo area. I suspect it's going to take a long time to recover from this incident.

I don't know what to think of this... This is pretty close. For those who are there at the moment, did it change anything about how secure Potrero is?

So much for Ed's constant reassurances. Its a climbing paradise, but violence in the area will affect it.

SORRY, THIS DOES NOT SAY HOMEROS. I was conflating it with a report I heard from somewhere else.

Just coming back from El Potrero Chico. We were there from feb 13th to 23rd 2013 and we camped at La Posada, where a few dozens of climbers were also enjoying the amazing climbing. There were also many foreigners at other campgrounds / casas, and always plenty of climbers at the crags from sunrise to sunset.

We saw a few police cars coming to the canyon once in a while, and a military truck with soldiers equipped with machine guns spent a few hours one day (but they seemed really relax, more like if they were taking a break...). Besides that, everyone was pretty cool and we never felt like it was dangerous to be there.

This was my first time in EPC, and I'm now confident enough that the risk related to drugs cartels is minimal for climbers, so I won't hesitate to go back next year.
