La Jolla People's Wall--Construction?

Can't Post

Hi there,
I'm designing a natural playground for kids ages 5-12 in a public park. I am planning on creating a bouldering wall out of a 4-6' high retaining wall, and covering it in cobble, similar to the La Jolla People's Wall in San Diego:
Can anyone point me to resources about the size/shape of cobble that should be used, size of the grout joints, etc.? I'd like the wall to be challenging for the kids, but not impossible. Also, I'd like it to be something they could climb with regular shoes or bare feet.
Most bouldering wall construction threads I've read are all about walls that use manufactured holds, which isn't an option in this case. I've seen pictures of a few walls in the Seattle area (Schurman Rock, Spire Rock), but can't find relevant info for designing a fun, climbable, natural rock bouldering wall. Thanks for any tips, recommendations, etc!
