I saw a person at my gym use one of these...I think he was injured though. Sure, it might make climbing easier...but the whole point of climbing is to get stronger, to better your health, and to have fun. So if you want to make it easier and "inflate" the level you climb at, go ahead, but you'll realize that it wasn't the right choice and that climbing should be a human-nature connection.

I can't think of a situation outside of offwidth climbing where those might be beneficial.

They might be good for keeping the sun off your forearms.
Last summer I used my husband's hole ridden socks (cut off the foot) so that I could protect my forearms from sun damage. Sun block wasn't cutting it.

It's so hot here in the NE...Long sleeves are so oppressive.
I am constantly in the search for some super lightweight long sleeve shirts that I can wear in 95+, humid weather.
Cut off socks work pretty well to protect my forearms. I have sun damage (brown spots) on my skin and I don't like it.

Same argument as the finger condoms Mad Rock came out with a while back. (also, tape gloves, rubber thigh pads, & sticky rubber climbing shoes 30 years ago, spring loaded camming devices, bolting on rapel, kernmantel ropes). Cheating isn't possible unless there are clear and explicit rules. Good thing there are no rules in climbing. It may be an advantage in some cracks & chimneys. It may save some skin or make climbing runout sections easier. But you will be called a "cheater" by the climbing police that uphold our ethics.
BTW why are they even called ethics? Is a guy that places a bolt in a trad area unethical? What has he done to man or mankind? Its only climbing. A fun but useless pass time. Weird!

Cheating? I don't see how. Don't see a negative. A positve might be maybe you could adapt them with velcro for those special apre-climb sheep date days.

Thanks, I passed that on to a friend who has burns on his arms. The skin tears easily and/or does not heal well (I forget which.)
He tried using bicycle inner tubes, but they didn't work, as you can imagine. Bigger ones from a motor bike may have worked better, but probably not as good as these!

If the sleeves are very tight - might they not contribute to increased "pump"? I don't know - just wondered. If they do it would hurt rather than help? I wear neoprene elbow sleeves when lifting weights sometimes and they are very warm. I think the sort of tan elastic fabric ones might be better for climbing - the neoprene ones aren't very durable.
