You got it! Their new setup is PERFECT for the World Cup format. 100ft long bouldering wall, space for seating, etc.

Joe Rockhead's is the official training facility for the athletes prior to the comp.

Are ifsc comp tickets normally this expensive? 60$ seems kinda high. Is the event indoor?

The event is completely non-profit. We have all volunteered our time to organize a venue, run marketing initiatives, IFSC approvals, climbing holds for the competition (around which, there are regulations), organizing judging & volunteers for the event, etc.

There are fixed costs that must be covered as outlined by the IFSC and that's where the ticket prices come in.

You can find out more about these costs on the IFSC website.

Some events charge tickets & some don't. It varies by event and how much sponsor support the event has. Unfortunately, climbing is not nearly as big in Canada as it is in Europe and even the US, therefore, there is less interest from sponsors here.

Our goal is to make this event a huge success, setting the stage for future events and putting Canadian climbing on the map.

If you have any specific questions related to the Canadian event, you can submit them through the contact page at and we'll be happy to get in touch. http://www.boulderingcanada.com/

Completely non-profit?

I have trouble believing that. Tell me that Gravity isn't asking for a handsome price to use their facilities.

Not to mention, when I had offered to volunteer at one point and I was told I should just donate money to the kickstarter page.

As for the IFSC site, un-navigateable.

To be honest I was really stoked for this event until I saw the cost and location.

The event itself is non-profit. Of course, suppliers to the event may or may not profit from their involvement.

Who did you inquire about volunteering with? Since the beginning of this journey, we have been collecting a database of contact information for everyone that has reached out to volunteer.

Agreed - the IFSC site can be challenging to navigate. There is an outline of all World Cup requirements here:

What about the location did you find off-putting?

I understand that this price if for two days of events?

Regardless, $60 is not expensive for a live event. Tell me what other sporting event at this level you can attend for this price or less.

I sent an email back during the kickstarter phase, saying i have no money but would give time.

Aside from the owner and it's patrons?

I live 5km from Gravity and I'd rather drive to Kitchener or Burlington because I don't like having to kiss ass to be allowed to use a facility, I'd hope that my money would suffice. Especially since it's the most expensive gym in the area with the least to offer to it's customers.

Had it been ANYWHERE else, I'd get over the douchy beginning, offered to volunteer again or consider ponying up the money, but knowing that even one penny is ending up in their hands, I'm out.
