Looks like tomorrow will end my self imposed 15 year hiatus from ice climbing. I'm not super psyched, but it's probably time to get back on the frozen horse.

Around the turn of the century I bought two ice axes and rigid crampons to replace my old school gear, and haven't used them even once. The "new" tools are already outdated, but I don't care, they'll get me where I need to go. The four ancient Chouinard screws, however...

Dude... you were doing so well, too. Man, sorry to hear that. If you need help, I know a good support group for this.

btw - we don't call it scotch. it's single malt whiskey.

Like I said, I'm a bourbon man. Didn't do any research. Just went in and rolled the dice on a brand. The flavor profile isn't as complex as some I've tried but it's SUPER smooth and definitely tastes of baked apples and cinnamon as advertised. Very drinkable for an entire evening.

Coincidentally enough, my younger brother showed up with a bottle of the Macallan Fine Oak 12 which was pretty good. Definitely spicier and not as clean as the Glenfiddich but good. Not nearly as good as the Select Oak you were talking about, no doubt, but good.

where'd you go diving? see anything interesting?

Did a shore dive in La Jolla. Saw several lobster, 7 varieties of nudibranchs, juvenile sarcastic fringehead fish, adult sarcastic fringhead fish, scores of squid egg pods, but the highlight was the octopus that I found that was as curious about us as we were it. That was cool.

I won't read your blog, Greg!

It's funny because it's not a blog any more (well, actually, the climbing one is still, but that's meant to be a blog).

Nope, still not reading it.

I don't think my head could handle it today. I feel like my head is between two vices. Unfortunately, those vices aren't single malt and white chocolate.

Regarding 12yo MacCallan - me no likey. I prefer the 10yo from them, and the 18yo is SUPER smooth. Love that stuff. I prefer the smokey, peaty flavors over the fruity stuff. But yeah, if it's smooth, I'd dig that, too.

yeah, that's about it. Actually, really the only chance is to get married. I could get hired, but I need to get hired from outside the US first, and I need to jump through all sorts of "no one else in Brasil can do this job" hoops, too.

Good news is that I can renew. Bad news is that this apparently doesn't solve some problems, but that's for another time.
