They're just not allowed to bank sick leave for more than 1 year... Some were banking 30 years worth of sick days and retiring a year or two early - with full pay and benefits because they were on "sick leave"

Shooting in. March is shaping up to be a fuck fest. Got two projects and one has an application deadline for March 21. We started talking about it yesterday. Woo! The other project is for an exhibit in August. Both projects are collaborations. I'm worried I'll be providing 80% of the work, but hey, this is life eh? End of the month my buddy from Germany (who met us in Spain) will come down to visit. Thankfully he'll shoot off to Foz de Iguacu for a few days while my classes, both English and Portuguese, take off like a rocket. Did I mention I have two new students? WTF? So yeah in March: Friend from Germany Two new students Portuguese start up again Government grant application due (in triplicate x 2 +1) due March 21 Other project requires ~6 new paintings Need to visit galleries and oh yeah, the Lady is back (old news, but still) Hoping to get two days of climbing in at the end of the month, too. We'll see.

the govt grant is the local cultural exhibition grant money that allows artists to exhibit at the local public cultural centers / museums, etc. we're really only apply for the sake of going through the process to know how to do it better for next year. but it'd be sweet to be able to exhibit here the year of the World Cup. That would get some attention for sure. Still, the application will be like 25 pages long and requires us to file 7 copies. I need to provide rough drafts on several of the proposed paintings that I don't even know what I'm going to paint yet. Need 10-20 roughs. I asked my collaborate to do 5-6; I bet I get 0-2. Anyway, if we somehow get massively lucky and get approved...fuck, that's huge on the resume. And then going in to the Biennial in Sao Paulo (HUGE) exhibit every two years...well, one can only hope.

The other project is going to be at a private gallery / museum. If we get that, that'd be sweet, too. A chance to show off before next year's big events. But we're going to try to hit a bunch of smaller galleries to see if we can get in to any of them. My buddy has a better chance, as he has a lot more experience, but I am getting noticed little by little, so one never knows. Fingers are crossed it all comes together.

so yeah, it's raining every day here. no climbing this weekend it looks like. two weeks? we'll see. would love to get on something before my buddy arrives. not sure if it'll happen though. just don't have the time. still, one place we're going to try to hit over easter weekend is fucking sweet. on top of this mountain that's at the end of an isthmus-peninsula with beaches on both sides of the isthmus. fuck yeah.

Although Meaghan did call a week ago and announced plans to catch up with us on our bon voyage sometime during the Summer and hitch a ride for a few weeks. We'll probably be somewhere around Cali/Oregon/Idaho about then, and at least I'll have a built in partner and a 2-1 vote for the days activitahs.
