Pick an online store with free returns, like zappos ?

But if I decide to order online, I wouldn't know what size to order. Also, I am looking at a Sportiva (which costs about $175). If I choose to go with ordering online, why not somewhere like ebay where I can get a cheaper pair?

That's why you order at a site with free returns and quick shipping. You're screwed if you buy off ebay and the shoe doesn't fit.

ebay sellers do tell (and show) the size of the shoes as well. So do you think I should use Zappos just to find out the size of the shoes, and then order on Ebay? I definitely don't want to pay the full price.

You were just given good advice.

Quit bitching and follow it.

Also: WTF are you doing buying $175 shoes as your first pair?

Climbing shoes aren't like a pair of Nikes that you order your normal size and expect to get a good fit. The sizing of climbing shoes is inconsistent--even within the same brand. I have used three different shoes in the five ten brand and they are sized three different ways because of the materials, shape, and purpose.

If you are going to order shoes online, you need to do a copious amount of research, reading all the reviews you can find on a couple models of shoes that fit your style of climbing. Then you want to understand the shape of your own foot (narrow? wide? morton's toe? etc.) All that will determine the type of shoe that will fit you best (asymmetrical, symmetrical, downturned, lv or women's, etc.).

After all this research, order two pairs (different sizes based on the sizing info in the reviews you read) of two types of shoes at an online retailer with free returns. You will return three pairs and keep the one that fits best. Getting a pair of shoes you think you might like on ebay only to find out that they don't fit you well at all is a waste of money. But it's your money, chance it if you want.

try talking to people at Mountain Tools. My recollection is that if you are not sure what size to buy, they will ask you to trace an outline of your foot and send it to them, and they will help you narrow down the size based on that.

if there are no stores that sell climbing shoes (other gear) within 100 mile radius of your town, how far do you have to go for actual climbing (not gyms)?

Maybe you can combine a trip to the closest crags to a store near there.

Just sayin . . .

and your RockClimbing.com is unexpectedly full of faggots like yourself. I'm new to climbing, and whenever somebody asks a question, a bunch of jackasses must be smart asses like they know shit. If you dumbasses are looking to raise your self esteem by indirectly boasting your so-called knowledge, I must say, that's pretty fucking sad.

You get good advice and get your panties in a knot because its not the cheap/easy way you were looking for?

Grow the fuck up. Nobody is stopping you from buying shoes off eBay, just be prepared to have to buy another pair of shoes if it doesn't work out. Ok princess?

Dude is definitely butthurt. Anyone else notice that the new user Climberoon registered minutes after Served got served and responded in this thread?

Climberoon then starts three similarly assinine posts and then hits Kartessa with a one star vote on her profile pic after she sets him straight. I thought you could only have one user name.

Sounds like a whiney little teenager who can't figure out the search function, take criticism, or come up with an original thought.

Hmm. I'd suggest putting the climbing shoes on the back burner and instead spending a few bucks on this:

1. A Homophobe slur implies beeing unsure about ones own sexual orientation.
2. If you ask for advice, be prepared to take it.
3. Look at the gumby-summer goal thread how feedback is given and taken.
