I decided to take a job in the Yosemite Valley. More specifically, Evergreen Lodge which is rumored to be about 45mins from the Big Walls in the valley. My question is, besides the actual big walls of the valley, is there any bouldering and sport climbing near the Evergreen Lodge or Groveland areas? If so, what guidebooks can you recommend for the areas climbing spots? I am more of a sport climber than anything else, but the occasional bouldering trips are fun for building strength. Any and all advice is much appreciated and thank you! Respects, AO

You will be about 30 min from Jailhouse and Table Mountain, both have good sport climbing and are fairly well known. Search this forum or go by S.N.A.C. in downtown Sonora for guidebooks and beta. About 45 minutes will get you to Columbia, great bouldering. Head up Sonora pass and there is all kinds of backcountry adventure from alpine style climbing to multipitch granite.

I wonder if there is anything in the way of development closer in to the lodge and Groveland... Any ideas?

There is plenty of rock around there, you could simply go and explore, find something and play. You also have the entire Hetch Hetchy area just right down the Evergreen Rd. There are other climbers working at the Evergreen, I'm sure they'd be happy to show you around too. Maybe I'll see you at the bar this summer!

Cool. I'm moving there this evening... Hopefully I can meet some cool people to go climb with, as its pretty much the entire reason I'm moving there-besides work of course.
