The subject line says it all. I recently experienced outdoor climbing/bouldering and also hiked a good amount and I want to get out and do more of both. I was not smart the first time, with shorts, in Texas brush.
Any recommendations on pants that can suit these requirements fully or almost?
- dry/hot weather (texas) need to be breathable with long hikes/bouldering
- withstand cacti
- withstand brush/branches
- withstand snake bites (yeah, I am asking for a lot here...)
- stretched/reinforced crotch and good enough to do heel hooks and other moves that require adequate movements.
I have looked at the following pants and will go try on as many as possible before purchase. It does not mean I am close minded to other suggestions, because I want to hear them all.

I've had cactus spines go through the soles of my Chacos. Very little chance of a pair of pants doing better!

Alright I will look into prAna stretch zion pants! You apparently have never been hiking in the deep Texas environment, lots of cacti of different varieties and occasionally a snake. A man can dream of a pant that can withstand all of that and still have breathability and mobility while climbing can't he?

Haha Texas isn't THAT bad. At least after going out into the middle of nowhere to boulder and hike long trails. A lot of the land is privately owned or has recently been bought up by counties and made into a dubbed "nature area" and it is quite amazing. My last trip though I encountered a rattle snake and a coral snake. Not stuff you want to mess with and it will only get worse as the summer goes on. I appreciate all the help everyone has given me on pants and the other threads I have made recently.

Thinking out of the box here ...
Wear jeans on the hike in. Then change into shorts for climbing. Then change back into jeans for the hike out.
(Crazy idea, but it just might work.)

How warm are the Zions? How durable?
I have a pair of thin nylon shell pants. But they aren't very warm or very durable. They were however quite cheep.

I got mine used, so I cant say how old they are, but I've had them for 2 years.
when I got them they were missing a button, and ive put a small hole in one of the pockets

I have both of the Kuhl pants you mentioned. I love them both and haven't been done wrong by either. The Ryder would definitely be a little hot in the summer time but also more durable. (I'm from Ft. Worth so I know what its like). Neither pant is very stretchy but the cuts of both of them are movement friendly, gusseted crotch and the whole bit.
I wore the Revolvrs on a climbing trip I took to Reimer's in the Lake Travis area in October and was pleased with how cool I stayed even in 90+ degree weather and direct sun. Wore the Rydr all winter here in Arkansas and loved them. I've had both pair for about a year, putting them through lots and they've held up well.

Oh sweet! I actually just went to Reimer's last week and it was amazing. Definitely didn't expect the terrain though. Do you think the prAna Zion pants would do? I just tried them on at REI and they feel amazing but I felt the Kuhl and they felt more durable texture wise.
Kuhl definitely looks like a good brand if I didn't go prAna Zion. I am glad someone knows the Texas environment for climbing/bouldering/hiking. I am from Dallas and we made a trip out there.
So, I think my choices are narrowed down to prAna Zion, Kuhl Revolvr or Rydr now.

Nevermind - I might have seen that elsewhere....maybe in a video.

i love my stretch zions but they aren't bombproof by any means.
Patagucci now has the "harding" pants which feel a little tougher. Almost as good as my old patagonia rythm series pants that are essentially climbing carharrts.
the fit of the Kuhls has never worked for me but they do feel burly
