Im planning on buying 2 extra rockclimbing shoes for women and two for men. I ask you guys to recommend me some what average foot sizes that I should be for each. i know there is no one size fits all, but when friends ask me to take them and teach em (most get hooked on the first weekend and in no less than a weeek buy theyre own gear) and I want to stop having to call climbing community friends to lend me a pair of shoes. I already hace several harnesses, systems, ropes and equipment. i just need to buy extra shoes for friends that wanna go out and take a chance on an awesome sport or life as I prefer to see it. Thanks all in advance for your recommendstions.

First time climbers outside often do pretty well wearing just their regular sneakers. Ill-fitting climbing shoes are not going to be of any help. Some gyms that are near climbing destinations often allow you to rent shoes for a day, and take them out of the gym. If you are a regular at a climbing gym somewhere, even if they are not doing this sort of thing on a regular basis, it won't hurt to ask there, they might be willing to let you rent shoes for your friends for a weekend of climbing outside the gym.

DO you have a rock climbing gym nearby? If so, would they be willing to rent shoes? That might be an easier solution...

I appreciate introducing new people to climbing, but there's no way I'd buy extra shoes with the idea of taking people out. People can wear my wife's or my old shoes or just wear sneakers. I find it helpful to discourage wearing hiking boots. With entirely new people, I try to visit crags with heavily featured, easier routes. If I pick properly, street shoes shouldn't be a massive limitation. If people are still hooked after wearing sneakers, they'll be pleased when transitioning to climbing shoes.

I learned how to climb in converse allstars. I suggest them as great beginner shoes.

There may be exceptions, but most gyms will not rent their shoes for outdoor use and subject them to dirt, moisture, or increased wear from beginners toe-dragging over coarse rock.

I run a small climbing wall - (I'm the guy everyone so kindly sent shoes to). So I tried to kind of keep track of which shoes seemed to be the most popular as to size. For the girls it's size 38 to 39 and men - 43 to 44. ow our gym has a lot of youth and teenagers so take that for what it's worth.
