Hey, anyone have a good resource for finding trends in indoor climbing in the US and abroad?
Thanks.

This isn't particularly scientific... but interesting.

Again, probably not what you are looking for, but the mere fact that about 10 for-profit gyms opened up in 2012 (I've identified 1 that closed this year) is pretty telling. There are a few big ones in the works for 2013 also.

Thanks for the tips - it's a bummer that there aren't easily available stats on indoor climbing. I'm finding that it's mixed in with all climbing, including bouldering

No stats, but it's very obvious that climbing is exploding right now. In my area we had maybe 1 gym in the entire state 10 years ago. Now there are 5 big ones in my metro area plus 4 big gyms elsewhere in the state.

It is such a blatantly commercial pursuit that is both serving existing demand and creating a lot more through promotion that I wonder how it can sustainably continue. All of these gyms advertise outdoor guiding of both rock and ice and there's no question that traffic at the crags has increased just in the decade I've been doing this. It's frustrating as hell.
