I was wondering what the worst injury you had while bouldering or climbing?

I just recently went for a hold bouldering about a week and a half ago and broke my hand :( . My first time and i was little scared..

By definition, the worst injuries would result in death, but those people are not here to tell you about it.

For me personally, the worst one, in terms of potential consequences, was the ruptured spinal disk. Though torn supinator muscle and subsequent elbow issues took way longer to rehab than the spinal injury. There was also a dislocated thumb, and a dislocated rib, but I got lucky on those. And various sprains and strains, i guess that is minor.

I've survived a heart attack while leading the 4th pitch of a big overhanging wall but my worse injuries occurred in a 60 footer where I broke my collar bone, scapula, 3 ribs, punctured a lung, smashed my right hand (my right thumb is now a quarter inch shorter than my left) and pulled every muscle on the right side of my upper body. No climbing for a year.

The only other injury I've suffered in 45 years of climbing happened when I fell out of a layback and the rope caught under my right knee causing a severe burn.

I suspect that if you start polling climbers who have climbed for 10 years or more some sort of spinal injury isn't terribly uncommon. Including myself, I know of 3 climbers who have fractured a vertebrae.
