Good Morning Everybody! I noticed in several posts there are several gym owners on this site and would like to pick your brains. My wife and I are just starting the process of opening a gym here in the Fredericksburg VA area and to be honest we're kind of at a loss at where to start! I owned a contracting company prior to the military but that is a completely different animal and there is a ton more to do in this. I'm sure as gym owners you are extremely busy but I was wondering if you could provide any insight to help us out? Any information as to what you may have done right in this process and what to watch for would be immensely helpful! Respectfully, Vic Hanley

Incidentally, if you are a climber on this forum who has an owner in your friends list, or personally knows an owner, getting me in touch with them would also be appreciated. Feel free to give them our email as well. VACrags@gmail.com

Thanks. So far, I've started up with them and have contacted several wall manufacturers as well as started contacting equipment manufacturers. We're currently working through our business plan but there's such a huge range of experiences from owners that I'm really looking for personal experience guidance. As a head route setter, I'm sure you would be a great source of information along helping us focus the right direction in hiring. Any advice?

In our area (California) Louie Anderson is quite good. Not sure if he travels that far but might be willing to consult or bid the fabrication. 1.) business plan - do you have one? This might get you in touch with him... http://www.thefactorybouldering.com/

When I got into building a decent sized home wall I went to the local gym for advice. Because of start-up costs most of his first year holds were all Franklin brand. good work horses and relatively cheap for what they are. |
