We're planning a trip in RRG in october and I was wondering if there's anything interesting to do around in our rest days. Any ideas?

If you want to go into Lexington (about an hour) there is a horse park and there is also a really cool race track called Keenland. Lots of people dressed up kind of like a mini KY derby.
If you want to spend money on an amazing steak, Malones in Lex is on the top 10 steakhouses in the country list.
Winchester is about 30 minutes away. Not much to do that I know of but there is a pretty good Mexican place called El Camino Real. They have cheap Margarita nights during the week.
You could hit the Natural Bridge and the Reptile Museum in Slade. There is also a new Zip Line place. Sometimes you can get a Groupon for 50% off.

There are a lot of cool swimming spots. Sleep in, have a big b-fast, buy some beer at the Beer Trailer then spend the rest of the day in the water.

In October, not August! It is rather cold for extended swimming.
If you are into hiking, there are a lot of trails in Daniel Boon Natl Forest. A hike up to Natural Arch is a short one and close to Miguel's. For more complete info google a book that is called something like "Hiking the Red, a trail guide to Kentucky's Red River Gorge". This book also has info on kayaking, mountain biking, etc. I believe you can rent bikes, but I have never done so myself.
Lexington has all the usual stuff -- movie theaters, etc.
But honestly, if you are there for only a week, it is nice to have just a lazy rest day of replenishing groceries, doing laundry, and hanging out.

All right!
We will definitely fill our whiskey passports with stamps and go get our T-shirt! :)
We will be around for a bit more than 2 weeks so we'll have a few days to explore the area. Thanks for the suggestions.

Missed that October part. You are correct; it will be too cold for swimming!

Volunteer a few hours at Muir Valley or contact the RRGCC and see if they have a small task.
The reptile zoo is cool. If you are there a 1pm or 2pm (I believe) you get to check out them extracting venom.
Wooly Worm Festival is in Beatyville Oct 19-21.

Ive lived in this area for years and there are lots of cool things to do. I agree with the whiskey tours. Buffalo Trace in Frankfort is a great FREE tour. Wild Turkey is in Lawrenceburg. There are two great brewerys in Lexington. West 6th brewing which supports RRGCC and country boy brewery.
Two really good outfitter stores are J&H good climbing selection and great help and Benchmark outfitters. Lexington also has a lot of quaint restaurants downtown. The Village Idiot is really good. Hope you have a great trip the Gorge is awesome.
