Hi, my name is Lucas and I´m going to Thailand next december till January 45 days trip.

I have 2 options

3 Weeks TONSAI
2 Weeks CHIANG MAI
1 Week THAKEK / LAOS
1 Week BANGKOK

OR

3 Weeks TONSAI
1 Week CHIANG MAI
2 Weeks THAKEK / VANG VIENG
1 Week BANGKOK

What ´bout Laos? Thakek deserves more time then VANG VIENG ? Is Chiang Mai as great as TONSAI ?

Chiang Mai x Tonsai.....Where deserve more days?

Into which airport are you flying?

Assuming bangkok, land and get to Tonsai as fast as possible. Spend as long there as you want. Then, move north. Don't plan too much. Talk with folks you meet while traveling and climbing and keep your plans open.

I hope that you have a great time!

Chiang Mai and Tonsai are different types of hang outs and climbs. Tonsai is much more crowded with fellow climbers, hectic and fun. Chiang Mai is mellower and the climbing is more moderate with hardly any tufas. The bolts are also reliable away from the ocean.

I do enjoy them both. Tonsai and the nearby areas are good for the party along with the steep climbing. After you get tired of the beach and your forearms need a rest, head north to Chiang Mai or wherever you may roam.

I met one guy that told me the climbing was not the reason to visit Laos. He did have a great time though.

Laos is an amazing place to visit. If you want to get away from the craziness of Thailand, spend more time there.

The climbing however isn't all that great. We spent 6 days in Vang Vien and only climbed one of the days (thought we had planned to do more).

Would definitely plan to visit Laos for the sights and culture but don't expect too much from the climbing there - might be a good break though in the middle of your trip.

You could also consider Halong Bay in Vietnam?

Consider this as well. We spent two weeks and loved it. Same same as tonsai but different.
