Hi, I'm going to be in Quebec in early October and was wondering: Where's best to climb? Where's best to stay (for meeting partners and alike)? Is it easy to travel around the different good areas in Quebec (I live in the UK so Quebec is mahoosif in comparison)? (By public transport?) Is October ice-climbing season? Thanks for any replies. Tim

Quebec city or the province of Quebec? Either way, October is too early for ice. I don't know much about Quebec city, but there is some good climbing around Montreal. Public transport would be a pain. You would be better off bribing locals to provide transport with beer.

Hi, Yeah. I'm flying into Montreal and then going to Saint-Adele for a conference but then have two weeks after that. So I guess around Montreal (at least to start with)? Beer bribery sounds like a plan. Cheers, Tim

Sainte-Adele is a stone's throw from Val David, which has trad, sport, and bouldering, so you should have plenty of options available.

There are better forums for finding climbing partners in Quebec. http://www.escaladequebec.com/ If you speak even a little French, I would advise at least beginning your first post on there in French, IME, the Quebecois appreciate the effort and will go the extra mile if they find you've put in some effort too. There is also a facebook group: Contacts Escalade I have found climbing partners in Quebec when in the area using both of these forums and both of the partners were good folks.

Tim From that area - Montreal & Saint-Adele, the two top places I'd look at climbing are Val David and Montagne d'Argent. Both have a good mixture of trad and sport, and Val David is, also, known for excellent bouldering. October is, generally, a very good time for climbing in Quebec -- it is usually dryish, post-bug season, and temperatures tend towards cool, but not cold.
