I'm going to be building a home wall soon, and will need to drill six 4x8 plywood sheets for t-nuts. I've done this before with a drill, but found that if I don't get the angle exactly right, it's very hard to put in the T-nuts, and I think this weakens the connection between the T-nut and the ply. I was thinking of a drill guide like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/100349264?productId=100349264&storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&MERCH=REC%2d%5f%2dSearchPLPHorizontal1%2d2%2d%5f%2dNA%2d%5f%2d100349264%2d%5f%2dN#.UbEZuo5EAqY or a plunge router. Maybe I could fashion my own drill guide from a piece of scrap wood I drilled into with a drill press. What do you use?

Just make sure you drill straight in. I've done hundreds of these and never had any problem. Maybe I've just had a lot of practice?

Forget the drill guide and do what climb4free said: spend that extra money on a couple extra drill bits and go a bit slower. What size bit are you using? The T nut doesn't need to fit tightly in the hole; that's not where its strength comes from. Use a bit that gives you some wiggle room (7/16, if I remember right) and the T-nuts will go in straight every time. Hammer them in carefully, or, if you want to be really professional, pull them though by theading a bolt through them. Have fun on your wall.

I found it helpful to drill through a template, just a board with a predrilled hole, it prevents damage to the face of the plywood. I never had issues with the angle either.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Followed advice and just used a drill with template. I have a few T nuts that popped out, but not too many. Pix in new thread.
